Things to know about your skin:
From a dermatological point of view,dry skin mainly lacks lipids. These keep the skin supple and ensure that the skin barrier remains intact. In dry skin, this skin barrier, also called the acid mantle, has many small holes. Moisture can escape on the one hand and bacteria and germs can penetrate on the other. Dry skin therefore does not simply need oil, but a balanced care that gradually rebuilds the disturbed skin barrier.
Noticeable reddening of the skin that occurs sporadically or regularly are visible vascular dilatations that are often triggered by sunlight, cold, spicy foods or stress. Only a dermatologist can tell if this is actually the inflammatory skin disease rosacea. A soothing, balancing skin care with anti-inflammatory active ingredients is always a good treatment option for redness.
Your skin is also dehydrated, i.e. lacking moisture. This means that the skin's own moisture cannot be retained well. For this reason, moisturising from the outside is especially important. We have taken this into account in our product recommendations below.
As your skin is also sensitive, you should avoid irritating ingredients or treatments. We therefore avoid certain active ingredients in our product recommendations and also advise you against mechanical peels.
Care recommendations and tips:
For dry skin, it is sufficient to cleanse it with lukewarm water in the morning; in the evening, it is best to use mild cleansing cream, milk or an oil-based cleanser. Since dry skin needs both moisture and lipids, use moisturisers that moisturise and bind. In addition, you can apply a moisturising toner after cleansing - it makes the skin more receptive to follow-up products.
High-quality vegetable oils and ceramides are also important because they strengthen the skin barrier. A rich, non-greasy cream and UV protection during the day are a good combination. In the evening, you can enrich your care with a few drops of oil.
EXTRA TIP: REDNESS
Did you know that not only the right skin care helps to keep redness at bay? Avoiding hot spices, alcohol or caffeine as much as possible also helps against reddened skin, because all these substances stimulate the blood flow in the fine vessels in the skin.
Too hot water when bathing or showering also dilates the blood vessels. Especially when washing your face, limit the water to lukewarm.
EXTRA TIP: MOISTURE
Unfortunately, there is no one miracle cure for dehydrated skin - it is rather a mix of several measures that moisturise your skin.
Besides skin care, these two are the most important: Drink a lot of water (yes, this also gets into the skin) and if the air in your room is dry (due to the heating in winter or the air conditioning in summer), make sure the air is well humidified, by using room humidifiers or simply a bowl of water on the radiator.
EXTRA TIP: SENSITIVITY
Sensitive skin should be treated like a raw egg. By this we mean: After washing, do not rub dry with hard terry cloth, but pat dry with a soft towel.
And also cream should not be massaged in too much, but better to first distribute in the hands and then gently pat into the skin with the palms.
