Description of the

The active ingredient retinol has proven itself to be the "gold standard" for years, because it helps boost cell renewal, has been shown to reduce lines and wrinkles, unclog pores, promote the formation of collagen and can even reduce acne. But where there is light, there is also shadow: pure, high-dose retinol can dry out and irritate the skin. Mild retinol precursors, on the other hand, are better tolerated but often do not develop the optimal, retinol-typical effect that delays aging processes. The search for the best combination of tolerability and efficacy has now come to an end: With the RETINAID system, consisting of two retinol formulas with different intensities, even sensitive skin can be optimally and permanently treated with retinol.

The INCIs of RETINAID are listed below. The composition of the FORTE version is identical, but contains twice the amount of retinaldehyde, i.e. 0.1%. Both product versions contain 0.5% bakuchiol.AQUA(water serves as a solvent and consistency enhancer), PENTYLENE GLYCOL(pentylene glycol is a solvent with moisture-binding and antimicrobial properties), PASSIFLORA EDULIS SEED OIL(passion fruit seed oil has a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect due to its high linoleic acid content), GLYCERIN(glycerin is part of the skin's own moisturising system; (Glycerine is part of the skin's own moisturising system; it strengthens the skin's barrier and promotes elasticity), HYDROGENATED ETHYLHEXYL OLIVATE (A mix of different esters obtained from olive oil with softening, skin-caring properties), HYDROGENATED OLIVE OIL UNSAPONSIFIABLES (Lipid derived from olive oil with skin care properties), SR-SPIDER POLYPEPTIDE-1(Silk proteins protect the skin by means of a breathable film), ISOSORBIDE DICAPRYLATE(Diester of isosorbide and caprylic acid; (natural skin care substance with regenerating and moisturising properties), SACCHARIDE ISOMERATE (natural cosmetic substance derived from glucose with moisture-binding properties), ORBIGNYA OLEIFERA (BABASSU) SEED OIL(babassu oil is quickly absorbed, has a slightly cooling effect, retains moisture and leaves the skin feeling soft and silky), UBIQUINONE (Also known as Q10, a co-enzyme with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties), TOCOPHERYL ACETATE (The derivative of vitamin E is an antioxidant and radical scavenger, so it protects the skin from harmful influences), C12-15 ALKYL BENZOATE (Skin-friendly lipid of synthetic origin; combines skin care and antimicrobial properties), UNDARIA PINNATIFIDA (WAKAME) EXTRACT (extract of wakame algae with skin-protecting and moisture-retaining properties), PECTIN (natural cosmetic thickener), XANTHAN GUM(xanthan gum is a thickening agent derived from sugar, (Xanthan gum is a thickening agent derived from sugar that is also used in organic foods), CHONDRUS CRISPUS EXTRACT (extract of red seaweed with skin-caring properties), CYCLODEXTRIN (oligosaccharide complex used here to stabilise retinal), RUBUS CHAMAEMORUS (SEED) OIL (oil of cloudberry; (oil of cloudberry; nourishing oil with a high vitamin C content), RETINALDEHYD (also known as retinal; direct precursor of retinoic acid; stimulates collagen and elastin production), CERAMIDE NP, CERAMIDE AP, CERAMIDE EOP(ceramides are endogenous components of the skin barrier; (Ceramides are a natural component of the skin barrier; protect it against harmful environmental influences and regulate the moisture balance), PHYTOSPHINGOSINE (Belongs to the ceramide group; natural component of the skin barrier), CHOLESTEROL (Natural lipid; component of the cell mortar in the horny layer of the skin (stratum corneum)), SODIUM LAUROYL LACTYLATE (Sodium salt obtained from vegetable oil; used as a mild emulsifier), CARBOMER(gel former with stabilising properties), TETRAHEXYLDECYL ASCORBATE (stabilised, as it is an oil-soluble form of vitamin C), BAKUCHIOL (active ingredient obtained from the Indian babchi plant, which has a similar effect to retinol), DIPOTASSIUM GLYCYRRHIZATE (extract from the liquorice root; has an anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing effect), MAGNOLIA OFFICINALIS BARK EXTRACT (extract from the bark of the magnolia tree; has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties and thus slows down skin ageing), SODIUM HYALURONATE(hyaluronic acid stores many times its own volume of moisture, plumps up the skin and stimulates collagen formation), ALLANTOIN(allantoin has a wound-healing, anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing effect), SODIUM CARBOXYMETHYL BETAGLUCAN(film-forming agent of plant origin), SODIUM HYDROXIDE(sodium hydroxide is a pH regulator of mineral origin).

What should I know before I start using RETINAID (FORTE)?

  • We recommend that retinol beginners start with RETINAID to get used to the product and only switch to RETINAID FORTE from the 2nd bottle onwards.
  • Do not use RETINAID (FORTE) on injured or inflamed skin.
  • If you are/could be pregnant or breastfeeding, please ask your doctor if the use of a retinol product is advisable for you.
  • Retinaldehyde is an active ingredient that must be used consistently for at least 8-12 weeks to show initial results. RETINAID contains other supporting active ingredients that immediately care for your skin and improve its condition.
  • It is completely normal if your skin is stressed during the first weeks of using RETINAID (FORTE), for example in the form of moderate desquamation, redness or a feeling of tension. These possible skin reactions are temporary and inextricably linked to the specific mode of action of retinaldehyde. In most cases, these reactions occur, if at all, after 2 weeks of regular application at the latest and last for a maximum of 4 weeks until they subside. It is important for the success of the treatment that you do not completely discontinue the product despite these skin reactions. The following instructions will help you to minimise the adverse effects on your skin sensation.

How exactly do I apply RETINAID (FORTE)?

  • RETINAID (FORTE) is applied maximum 1x daily, preferably in the evening. You can also use RETINAID (FORTE) during the day, provided that you combine the application with an effective UV protection (e.g. DAY LIGHT 30 or D-FENCE 50).
  • If your skin is not yet used to RETINAID (FORTE), we advise the following gradual acclimatisation:
    • Week 1-2: 2x weekly
    • Week 3-4: Every 2nd evening
    • From week 5: Every evening
  • Apply a thin layer of RETINAID (FORTE) to the skin after cleansing the face and let it absorb well before applying further care steps.
  • Do not use RETINAID (FORTE) on the lips or eyelids. Avoid direct eye contact. In case of eye contact, rinse eyes with lukewarm water.
  • Please do not accelerate the settling-in process - a careful settling-in pays off.
  • If your skin is sensitive or dry, use a skin-soothing care after RETINAID (FORTE), for example the HighDroxy CALM BALM.
  • In order to temporarily reduce the irritation potential, you can mix the product with the following care and apply it together or reduce the frequency of application.
  • Avoid mechanical peelings during the settling-in phase and do not add active ingredients such as niacinamide, vitamin C or mild fruit acids until you have settled in.
  • If your skin is already used to retinol, you can start/continue with RETINAID FORTE . You can use RETINAID FORTE directly every 2nd evening or every evening depending on your tolerance.
  • Please always use a sunscreen when using RETINAID (FORTE)!
  • We have compiled further helpful information for you in the package insert.

Can I apply RETINAID to the eyes?
You can apply RETINAID up to the point where the bone ends - we do not recommend applying directly under the eye or on the eyelid.

At what point in my skincare routine do I apply RETINAID ?
There are several possibilities here.

  1. Apply RETINAID after cleansing and use a moisturiser afterwards.
  2. First use a moisturiser like IN:FUSE and then apply RETINAID .
  3. Use a moisturiser after cleansing, then RETINAID and then a moisturiser again.
  4. Mix RETINAID with your moisturiser and apply both together.

How often do I have to use RETINAID at least?
Daily application of RETINAID is not necessary. However, you should apply RETINAID at least twice a week.

I previously used 1 per cent retinol - do I now use RETINAID or RETINAID FORTE ?
When using 1 percent retinol (which is equivalent to 0.1 percent active acting retinoic acid), 0.1 percent retinaldehyde is a good way to proceed. This is found in RETINAID FORTE . Nevertheless, with a retinol product it also always depends on the compatibility of the overall formulation, i.e. you can also wonderfully start with the weaker version RETINAID with 0.05 percent retinaldehyde and then switch to RETINAID FORTE .

Can I also use RETINAID for rosacea?
Basically, RETINAID is well tolerated. However, as rosacea can have a very individual expression, we always recommend a slow approach and acclimatisation with observation for tolerance. In the meantime, you should reduce other active substances.

The only retinol product that I can tolerate. I have already repurchased it several times. (I use the reduced dose product and not the forte version.) Although there is no noticeable change in my hyperpigmentation, the skin has improved.

Achieves the desired effect and is not aggressive to the skin, as one might expect with the desired effect (with other manufacturers this is also quite the case).

RETINAID or RETINAID FORTE ?

We recommend all retinol newbies to start with RETINAID and to switch to the FORTE version from the second bottle on. Those who are already used to retinol products or have robust, insensitive skin can also start directly with RETINAID FORTE . As a general rule, retinol (or the retinaldehyde contained in RETINAID ) takes a few months to take effect. Therefore, RETINAID is intended for long-term or even continuous use. A period of several weeks of habituation, during which the skin may be somewhat taut or slightly red, is also normal and no cause for concern. In the detailed package insert you will find useful tips for a gentle acclimatisation.

SO EFFECTS RETINAID

STABILIZED RETINALDEHYDE - THE BETTER RETINOL

Behind the skin-improving effect of retinol products is retinoic acid (also known as vitamin A acid or tretinoin), which is the only active form of retinol. Pure retinoic acid is not only highly effective, but also very irritating to the skin. Therefore only precursors (retinol) or even precursors (retinol derivatives) are used in over-the-counter skin care. These are first converted into retinoic acid in the skin and are therefore significantly less irritating - but also less effective. For the optimal combination of tolerability and efficacy, the order in which the conversion takes place is decisive:

1. retinol derivatives (e.g. retinyl palmitate)

2. retinol

3. retinaldehyde

4. retinoic acid

Retinaldehyde therefore has a decisive advantage over conventional retinol or its precursors: it is converted directly and virtually loss-free in the skin to the highly effective retinoic acid. Therefore, a comparatively low, well-tolerated dosage is sufficient to achieve relevant results. Another special feature of RETINAID: The form of retinaldehyde used here is additionally stabilized by a special embedding in oligosaccharides. This eliminates another disadvantage of conventional retinol: its high sensitivity to light and oxygen. Therefore, RETINAID can even be used during the day (which leads to extensive loss of effect with conventional retinol products).

Extracted from the seeds and leaves of the Indian babchi plant, this active ingredient is also known as the "best alternative to retinol". Not without reason: although chemically unrelated to retinol, bakuchiol works in an almost identical way - but without stressing the skin. But bakuchiol is more than a mild, herbal retinol alternative: studies also show that bakuchiol actually enhances the effect of retinoic acid, but not its irritant potential. In addition, bakuchiol improves the stability of retinaldehyde through its antioxidant properties - all in all, a perfect active ingredient partner!

The extract of the wakame algae (Undaria pinnatifida) used in RETINAID is known as a true elastin and collagen booster. It contains important minerals and essential amino acids and is also rich in the so-called wakame esters. These esters activate a total of 14 different genes involved in the synthesis of the three main components of the extracellular matrix (intercellular spaces): Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid.

RETINAID (FORTE) contains a mix of skin-identical ceramides, which are structured similarly to the lipid barrier in the stratum corneum due to their multilamellar membrane system. This mix restores the barrier function of the skin and thus strengthens its own protection. The vegan, functional silk polypeptides used in RETINAID (FORTE) form a breathable, protective film on the skin and thus support the barrier-protecting properties of the formulation from the outside.

PROFESSIONAL TIPS ON RETINAID

The skin-image-improving effect of retinaldehyde is well complemented by the active ingredients niacinamide, vitamin C and mild fruit acids. We recommend using these active ingredients only after successful familiarisation and not applying fruit acids at the same time as RETINAID, but alternating them in the evening.

The active ingredient retinaldehyde can reduce the skin's own protection against UV radiation, as the body's own skin renewal is accelerated. It is therefore advisable to use a sun care product with a sun protection factor of 30 or more during the day during the application period.

RETINAID (FORTE) can also be applied in the morning due to its stabilized formulation, always followed by a day care with SPF 30 or higher. Nevertheless, we recommend the application in the evening, as the fluid has a yellow tint that may affect light skin tones or subsequently applied make-up.
