The active ingredient retinol has proven itself as the "gold standard" for years, because it helps boost cell renewal, has been shown to reduce lines and wrinkles, unclog pores, promote the formation of collagen and can even reduce acne. But where there is light, there is also shadow: pure, high-dose retinol can dry out and irritate the skin. Mild retinol precursors, on the other hand, are better tolerated but often do not develop the optimal, retinol-typical effect that delays aging processes. The search for the best combination of tolerability and efficacy has now come to an end: With the RETINAID system, consisting of two retinol formulas with different intensities, even sensitive skin can be optimally and permanently treated with retinol.
The INCIs of RETINAID are listed below. The composition of the FORTE version is identical, but contains twice the amount of retinaldehyde, i.e. 0.1%. Both product versions contain 0.5% bakuchiol.

You can apply RETINAID up to the point where the bone ends - we do not recommend applying directly under the eye or on the eyelid.

What is the minimum frequency of application of RETINAID ?
Daily application of RETINAID is not necessary. However, you should use RETINAID at least twice a week.
I previously used 1 percent retinol - do I now use RETINAID or RETINAID FORTE ?
When using 1 percent retinol (which is equivalent to 0.1 percent active acting retinoic acid), 0.1 percent retinaldehyde is a good way to proceed. This is found in RETINAID FORTE . Nevertheless, with a retinol product it also always depends on the compatibility of the overall formulation, i.e. you can also wonderfully start with the weaker version RETINAID with 0.05 percent retinaldehyde and then switch to RETINAID FORTE .
Can I also use RETINAID for rosacea?
In principle, RETINAID is well tolerated. However, since rosacea can have a very individual expression, we always recommend a slow approach and acclimatization with observation for tolerance. You should reduce other active ingredients in the meantime.
RETINAID or RETINAID FORTE ?
We recommend all retinol newcomers to start with RETINAID and switch to the FORTE version from the 2nd bottle. Those who are already accustomed to retinol products or have robust, insensitive skin can also start directly with RETINAID FORTE . In general, retinol (or the retinaldehyde contained in RETINAID ) needs a few months to take effect. Therefore, RETINAID is intended for long-term or even continuous use. A period of several weeks of habituation, during which the skin may be somewhat taut or slightly red, is also normal and no cause for concern. In the detailed package insert you will learn useful tips for a gentle acclimatization.
Behind the skin-improving effect of retinol products is retinoic acid (also called vitamin A acid or tretinoin), because this is the only active form of retinol. Pure retinoic acid is not only highly effective, but also very irritating to the skin. Therefore, only precursors (said retinol) or even precursors (retinol derivatives) are used in over-the-counter skin care products. These are first converted to retinoic acid in the skin and are therefore significantly less irritating - but also less effective. For the optimal combination of tolerability and efficacy, the sequence in which the conversion occurs is decisive:

Retinaldehyde therefore has a decisive advantage over conventional retinol or its precursors: it is converted directly and virtually loss-free in the skin to the highly effective retinoic acid. Therefore, a comparatively low, well-tolerated dosage is sufficient to achieve relevant results. Another special feature of RETINAID: The form of retinaldehyde used here is additionally stabilized by a special embedding in oligosaccharides. This eliminates another disadvantage of conventional retinol: its high sensitivity to light and oxygen. Therefore, RETINAID can even be used during the day (which leads to extensive loss of effect with conventional retinol products).
This active ingredient, extracted from the seeds and leaves of the Indian babchi plant, is also known as the "best alternative to retinol". Not without reason: although chemically unrelated to retinol, bakuchiol works in an almost identical way - but without stressing the skin.But bakuchiol is more than a mild, herbal retinol alternative: studies also show that bakuchiol actually enhances the effect of retinoic acid, but not its irritant potential. In addition, bakuchiol improves the stability of retinaldehyde through its antioxidant properties - all in all, a perfect active ingredient partner!
The extract of wakame algae (Undaria pinnatifida) used in RETINAID is known as a true elastin and collagen booster. It contains important minerals and essential amino acids and is also rich in the so-called wakame esters. These esters activate a total of 14 different genes involved in the synthesis of the three main components of the extracellular matrix (intercellular spaces): Collagen, Elastin and Hyaluronic Acid.
RETINAID (FORTE) contains a mix of skin-identical ceramides, which are similar in structure to the lipid barrier in the stratum corneum due to their multilamellar membrane system. This mix restores the skin's barrier function and thus strengthens its own protection. This reduces the stress potential for the skin and optimally supports the success of the treatment. The vegan, functional silk polypeptides used in RETINAID (FORTE) form a breathable, protective film on the skin and thus support the barrier-protecting properties of the formulation from the outside.
